While doing the routine surfing of Pagalguy I came across some tips on improving your reading speed. I want to share these tips with the readers of this blog. For all amateurs these are the best tips, at least to find the fault but all the learned people who are preparing for MBA for past one or two year will find a fault.

My take on these tips are :
1) Sight Reading: Due to sight reading sometimes we miss few words like to, for, they, a etc which are articles, prepositions and verbs. Though they are not so much important but they sometimes change the overall meaning of the sentence like
Compare Akbar with Shah Jahan (right sentence)
Compare Shah Jahan to Akbar (wrong sentence)
Though both looks similar but the preposition used here made the difference and only an avid reader can find it. Many a times RC checks you on these words and asks a question, if you are really attentive while doing the sight reading then it’s good otherwise in order to improve the speed you mark a wrong answer. So, in my opinion be careful while doing the sight reading.
2) Configuation: This is also very dangerous as once you make a habit of recognizing the words then you start focusing on first and the last alphabets of the word and read all those words incorrectly which looks similar, like
Stationary and Stationery
Debutante and Debutant
And this list continues as in English Lexicon you will find lots of words which look similar but they are way apart from each other. So, again be careful while adopting this method of reading as a wrong word totally changes the meaning of the sentence.
Overall, very nice tips to follow but be precautious while blindly following them. At the end I will say this much that do give importance to speed reading but never compromise on comprehension as competitive exams will check more on your comprehension instead of speed, and this judgment of mine is based on the premise that CAT has reduced the number of questions (total 75 questions) and increased the time limit (150 minutes).
