Though 150th birthday is after two years, they have started collecting the items now. Till now there has been 123 nominations. Here is the screenshot of the nominations. To go to the site, please click the image or this link: MIT Museum Nominations.

In my opinion this is a very creative way to commemorate the institute’s birthday. I think others too will come up with such idea. TISS

TISS ‘09 too was easier than TISS ‘08. Though I haven’t given this exam, but am posting the analysis made by IMS group on their site. I am sharing a small snippet of analysis, rest you have to read it by going to their site.

“The management entrance test to TISS, held on 14th December 2008, was easier compared to TISS 2008. The shock value was not there this time because students were prepared and the overall level of difficulty of the test was quite low.
The test was divided into 2 parts – the first part was of 45 minutes duration and the second of 1 hour. The second part of the test was specialization specific, i.e., it varied according to the specialization one had chosen.
The instruction page clearly stated that there is no negative marking, no sectional cut-offs and no sectional time limits. ”

Section I – Verbal Communication
This section comprised questions on verbal ability as well as reading comprehension. There were 12 questions on reading comprehension and 18 on verbal ability. The passages were of medium length with mostly direct questions and a few inferential questions. But even for direct questions, the options were quite deceptive; so negating the options could take some time and careful consideration of the passage. Understanding the passages was not a major hindrance while answering the questions. The questions required you to understand and interpret the passages. There was also one word-based question based on the passage.

Grammar Based Questions
There were a variety of questions testing the basics of grammar like: identifying the grammatically correct sentence, identifying the correct and incorrect sentence after unscrambling them, converting from direct to indirect speech and replacing underlined phrases. There was also a question testing spelling. On the whole, the questions were fairly simple, but they expected you to know the basic concepts of grammar and read the instructions carefully.

Vocabulary Based Questions
There were questions of the type like: fill in the blanks (double blanks), synonyms, antonyms and analogies. Some of the words were quite difficult, e.g., sidereal, moribund, tractable, etc. Here the questions, even the analogies, required a bit of thought and sound concepts. The fill in the blank questions were also on the trickier side.

We remember better at about 10 minutes after the learning finishes. The reason for this strange memory phenomenon is simple: at the moment learning period finishes, the brain has not had enough time to organize and store the last items. It needs a few minutes to store, organize, integrate the last items.

Please note that the memory decreases sharply after initial learning. We remember only 18% after 24 hours.

We forget 82% of all that we learn within 24 hours!!

This is a very important fact for you to remember.

So, you must revise in a systematic way to get the maximum benefit from your hard work.

Please read the following instructions which IRMA has given on its site and do not forget to take you ball point pen along with you on the D-day as you will be requiring it.

Instruction for filling up the information on the side 1 of the answer-sheet:
i. For box nos. 1 to 5 and 8 to 11, use ball-point pen only.
ii. Leave box nos. 6 and 7 blank.
iii. Information needed for boxes 8 to 10 will be available to you after you receive the test booklet. You will have
to transfer this information on to your answer-sheet using ball-point pen.
iv. Put your signature in box no. 11, using a ball –point pen.
v. Information required in box no 13 to box no 29 is to be filled in with HB pencil only as explained below,
(Leave box nos,.15, 16 and 18 blank)
vi. Candidate’s Name (Box No. 13): There is row of 10 boxes for writing the name. Just below each box you
will find a column of 26 ovals each containing a latter of the alphabet. Write one letter in each box using HB
pencil, and darken the appropriate oval under each box. Please leave one box and respective column of
ovals blank between two parts of the name. If your name contains more letters, write only the first ten letters,
which you can accommodate in the boxes provided.

There are two ways to apply NMIMS:

Option 1:

Online registration. Very similar to SNAP-08, rather working on same application.Payment of fees by

2) Demand Draft

3) Credit Card

Procedure : register new username, fill the form, make payment.

Option 2:

Through IMS learning centre.

Get motivated

Identify the apt frequency of test taking for you

go through the last few years’ CAT papers

Identify the type of questions that you are good at and revise them

devote equal time to all sections

read a lot

but don’t scrutinise through funda books

Start thinking about a strategy

Do not go too hard on testing yourself

Stay calm and relax. Sleep properly, watch movies, and spend some time in the playground.

Are you still searching the source where you can find tests to practice? If yes, then you have once again come to the right place. Yesterday, I came across the site of TCYonline where you can register it for free and chose the topic of test which you want to give. All you have to do is register for free. List of topics is beside this text.

Problem: You can select only two topics from the list.

Solution: You can make multiple accounts. I haven’t tried it but I’m sure they won’t caught you. Only thing is you would require more than one email account and with so many email providers; I don’t think it’s not an issue.

You can also refer this to your younger cousins who are in school or preparing for any other competitive exams as “Nishkaam Seva” is what our “Bhagwat Gita” teaches. It will also help you improving your PR (public relation) skills.

For instance, CAT 2007 did not surprise the takers with its pattern, though it’s Quantitative and Verbal sections certainly gave the test takers a hard time.CAT 2007 was characterised by a tough Quantitative section, a lengthier (over 180 words per question) Verbal section and the only life saver in the form of DI section.

The test security was unbeatable with four sets of question papers having answer options jumbled even for the same questions in all the four sets. That is, if your answer in Series 111 for a particular Quant question was Option 4, the answer for the same question in Series 222, 333 and 444 may not be the same (ie Option 4).

This was a proactive step taken by the exam setters because, since CAT 2006, students are getting more than two minutes per question (considering the fact that no one attempts all the questions) increasing the possibility of copying.

To help this year’s test takers crack CAT 2008, experts from TCYonline.com have analysed the last 4 CATs in the deepest possible detail. Let’s analyse the components one by one:

CAT Quantitative Section
This section was the toughest of all. The topic wise break-up of the Quantitative section is as follows:

Once again, the greatest share was of Number theory. Surprisingly, Higher Math occurred second as regards the share in total number of questions. A comparison of the CAT 2007 with the previous 4 CATs (Chart No 2) shows that Number Theory and Geometry are becoming hot favourites of the exam setters. On the other hand the number of Area/Volume questions has fallen drastically since last CAT.

CAT Verbal Section
Though seemed similar from the outset, CAT 2007 verbal was much different from CAT 2006. The return of Grammar; a new creative face of vocabulary under the guise of sentence completion and lengthier Para jumbles as compared to the earlier versions. An overview of CAT 2007 verbal is given below:

As one can see from the pie chart, reading comprehension had a clean sweep over the rest in CAT 2007. This section seemed difficult with the number of RC passages going up from 12 in CAT 2006 to 15 this year and the number of RC questions going down from 15 in CAT 2006 to 12 this year.

Para Jumbles took the RC avatar with long paragraphs in place of sentences as jumbled parts. A careful comparison ofCAT 2007 with the past 4 CATs (Chart No 4) shows that RC is the hot favourite of the verbal exam setters. On the other hand, Para Jumbles appeared as an important ingredient of CAT only after CAT 2004.

CAT DI Section

This was the only scoring section in the CAT 2007. The questions were easier but trickier as compared to CAT 2006. Data Sufficiency appeared in this section after a long absence. But the most important fact is that Logical reasoning is getting more and more preference of the test takers (see Chart No 5). Moreover, it is retaining the trend since CAT 2005.

Remember: Undermentioned is the process used by S.P Jain. Other’s procedure is not known to me.

The CAT is fast approaching and you must all be very busy with your preparation. The preparation must be focussed on the test and not on the GD/PI, which is but natural. However, soon after the CAT, calls will start coming in for S.P. Jain’s GD/PI. This year, their interview process has been scheduled from December 2008 through March 2009. The interviews commence before the CAT2008/XAT2009 results are declared, which creates confusion in the student’s mind about whether to apply to this institute or not.

Let me put before you some key facts regarding the institute that might help you make up your mind.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management, from S P Jain, is a two-year, full-time, residential programme that offers specializations in Finance, Operations, Marketing and Information Management and is ranked among the top ten in the country.

Eligibility

Minimum 3-year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University in India or abroad

Admissions Process

Applications are to be submitted on-line only.

The Application Processing Fee is Rs.1200 and can be paid by Credit Card or Demand Draft favouring ‘S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research’. The draft should be sent to the Admissions Coordinator.

Payment can also be made at cash collection counters.

Selection Process:

Test scores accepted : CAT 2008, XAT 2009, GMAT (taken in 2008)

Minimum score required to get a final offer: 85 percentile in CAT2008/XAT2009 or a score of 680 in GMAT taken in 2008

The question foremost on every student’s mind is “How does the final selection to this institute happen?”.

They use various criteria, such as good continuous education record, versatility and good value system, work experience and more. They categorize the candidates’ application forms on S, A, B and C grades. S is Super, A is Good, B is Satisfactory, and so on.

In the good continuous education record criterion, the student should have had high scores from reputed institutions in all three examinations – X, XII and graduation degree. Such a student gets an S. However, if the student has done well, but not from a reputed college, s/he gets an A.

In the versatility and a good value system criterion, they evaluate the personality of the student. Snapshots of the person’s life and, especially, the adverse situations s/he has gone through, her/his family background, etc. are focussed upon. This criterion is also rated as S, A, B or C.

The third criterion is the quality of work experience. Here, again, the student is rated as S, A, B or C.

Specializations are offered in four streams. For Marketing and Finance, there is no work experience criterion. A student who is excellent in studies and CAT will get a call even with low or no work experience. For Information Management and Operations, experience is a must. The institute does not take anybody with less than one-and-a-half or two years’ work experience.

To get an interview call, the student has to get an S on at least one criterion. In any case, the student should not get below a B in any criterion.

Once the students have been shortlisted, they are called for the interview. The first set of interviewees will be shortlisted on the basis of academic performance, versatility in extra-curricular activities and relevant work experience. Candidates who clear the first round will appear for a second round on the same day.

After the CAT results are out, the CAT performance is used to further sort this list.
