How do you calculate the square of a two digit number ? Either you learn it or you multiply the number with itself. But when you are giving the exam you cannot afford to lose even a single second by multiplying them, also everyone doesn’t have that sharp memory that he can memorize it. So today I will be discussing a very easy method to calculate the square.

Lets take a number: 89

Only thing you should remember is square of numbers from 1 to 9.

1) Write the Square of first digit i.e 8^2 = 64

2) Find 2xfirst digit x second digit i.e = 2×8x9=144

3) Write the Square of second digit i.e 9^2 = 81

Now write them in sequence as shown in picture. { Result = Square of 89 }

Last digit of in sequence will become the last digit of Result. After this take the remaining digits i.e 8 (in this case) and add it to second number of sequence. Last digit of addition will become the second last digit of Result. Now take the remaining digits of this number i.e 15(in this case) and add it to the first number of sequence i.e 64. Now this addition has given us the final digits of Result. Therefore, Square of 89 = 7921.

Steps will remain the same only digits will change. May be here it seems that its a difficult method but I can assure that once you expertise this method, you won’t feel the same.  I hope I have been able to explain this method in best possible way.
